Sheet Metal Inc. was started in September 1994 by Danny Steward to meet the needs of south central Kansas roofing companies. Danny started the business in his shop outside Clearwater, Kansas fabricating and installing all type of sheet metal for mainly roofers and several general contractors. Initially, he has three people working for the company. In the early days of SMI, the crews even completed tile and slate roofs, which SMI doesn’t complete this type of work today. SMI was a small and successful company with potential to offer much more to its customers.
In May 2010, Lou Eftink and David Jones received the opportunity to purchase SMI. They were ready to take the company to the next level. Lou and David saw a need from their existing customers to offer sheet metal services within the building industry. This would alleviate the schedule and manufacturing challenges they had experienced with SMI’s sister company, Design-Build Construction. Design-Build Construction and SMI complement one another with the services they provide thus providing better products and services. With the leadership and guidance of these two gentlemen, along with a dedicated staff, the company has more than tripled in revenue in just six years.
Throughout its history, SMI has delivered high quality products and installations to its customers and will continue this culture. Providing good customer service builds trust and continued partnerships between SMI and its clients.
